Party Tactics
Back to Tips
Invitations to holiday parties are filling up the mailbox. Is there a healthy approach? Holiday parties are special and often a once a year treat. You can maintain a healthful approach if you plan ahead.
- Don’t go to the party thinking a buffet of appetizers should replace dinner. Eat a small healthy dinner and arrive at the party ready for a few nibbles but not starving.
- Scope out the food table before making your choices, decide which foods you can’t live without and which ones are easy passes
- Don’t stand close enough to the buffet table that you can eat without thinking about it.
- Sample small portions of your favorites, you get the flavor without the excess
- Work the party, visit with friends and make new ones, it’s hard to eat and talk at the same time
- Go easy on alcohol, which can increase your food intake as well as add a lot of calories!
- Consume 1 glass of water for every alcohol or caffeinated drink
In addition to having a party plan, keep physically active during the holiday season. Physical activity will help you burn the extra calories and is also a good stress reliever.
